Flutist // Teacher

Biography
Jamie Wilken is a classically trained flutist and dedicated music educator with a passion for creating meaningful, inclusive learning spaces. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from East Carolina University, where she studied under Christine Gustafson, and a Master’s Degree from NYU Steinhardt, where she trained with renowned flutist and composer Gary Schocker. While at NYU, she also studied with Keith Underwood, whose innovative approach continues to influence her teaching.
Jamie’s musical journey has taken her around the world—from performing Brazilian flute repertoire in Recife, Brazil, as part of the Music Alive! FIPSE/CAPES grant exchange, to participating in the Marina Piccinini International Masterclass and other esteemed programs. Her training has given her a strong foundation in both technique and artistry, which she brings into every lesson.
Equally passionate about service and community, Jamie served as a MusicianCorps (AmeriCorps) member in Winston-Salem, NC, where she designed and led music-based programs for at-risk youth, ESL learners, and adults with developmental disabilities. These experiences shaped her belief that music can be a powerful tool for connection, growth, and healing—and continue to inform her heart-centered, holistic teaching philosophy.
Now based in Western North Carolina, Jamie enjoys collaborating with fellow artists and has performed locally at venues including The White Horse, The Odd, Alley Cat, and Sly Grog. She continues to blend her love for performance and education by supporting students of all backgrounds in discovering their own musical voice.
